Internet Forum Fun, or How I Used Big Papa’s Climate Change Resources
Climate Crocks
I have been an off-and-on participant in a discussion about Cornell University’s fracking ban. I had distanced myself from the conversation following a particularly annoying, insult-laced exchange with a participant. Well, a post today caught my eye, and I could not help but reply. I availed myself of the links Big Papa had kindly provided some time ago. Here is the exchange:
(KN) • Hey Joe…”just plain bat-shit crazy in denying climate change”…really? Nobody denies there is climate change going on. Climate change has been happening since the beginning if time. Bat-shit is changing the catch-phrase “global warming” to “climate change” and expecting anyone to take you seriously. Bat-shit is claiming that man’s miniscule contribution to total atmospheric CO2 (3.4%), which itself is a miniscule portion of atmospheric greenhouse gases (3.6%) has any measurable effect (if the math is befuddling you, 3.4% of 3.6% is 0.12%). A thoughtful person without an agenda would look at solar activity and how frighteningly close it tracks with global temperature fluctuations throughout history. How about this…Sunspots = increased solar magnetic activity = increased cosmic ray deflection away from earth = decrease in cloud cover = increased energy from sun = higher earth temperatures. That’s a concept that makes total scientific sense and which the historical data supports…check it out.

(me) •KN, you are either innocently or purposefully confounding or conflating Anthropogenic Global Warming with Global Warming in general. “Climate change” is a disingenuous monicker when the change is mono-directional: up. Percentages are entirely irrelevant in this discussion unless put in the proper context. Simply because a proportion or ratio is small, does not mean it is insignificant. When you place the final straw on the camel’s back, you don’t blame wheat for the beast’s collapse. Here are a few resources in the discussion of AGW :

And a very entertaining mapping of the funds that pour in to the producers of your “facts”:
exxonsecrets.orgOh, and here’s an internet discussion forum Protip: Don’t be so bloody insulting unless you have the hide of a rhinoceros to match the demonstrated intellect of one. Presuming that math is “befuddling” to a fellow Cornellian is more a reflection on your social graces than on Joe’s math skills.
